1:27 pm - Lily Allen at Leeds University
Why do I even bother going to gigs at the Refectory? It is the WORST venue in Leeds, which isn't saying much, but still...how can The Who Live at Leeds actually have been recorded in that place?

Despite not being able to see or hear properly, Lily Allen was still marvellous. And glorious. Her between-song banter was funny, especially when introducing Knock 'Em Out. Shame about the 'acoustic medley' (Everybody's Changing by Keane?? FFS...) but the encore of Alfie was brilliant, everyone was bouncing around grinning like twats. Just as it should be.

And to top of my day Caroline has got tickets for me, her and Lorraine to see DOLLY PARTON in March. It was so cute, she couldn't talk when she rang up to tell me! 60 quid though - ouch!!!! - but it's gotta be worth it...

I don't think I agree with these results, but it serves me right for spending too much time at work filling out stupid questionnaires. No wonder my work ethic score is so low.

12:39 pm - My Husband/Nice Stuff
I still can't believe I have a husband. It sounds so grown-up and weird when I say it (but nice, obv).
Image hosting by TinyPic

Things I am looking forward to:

1. My husband being at home in the evenings

2. And being a school teacher

3. Looking through holiday brochures all weekend

4. Going to Greece on holiday....sun, sea, swimming, a big stack of paperbacks and leisurely strolls

5. The World Cup this summer (I know, this one surprised me too. I think it's because I work on Millennium Square now and we can go and watch it on the big screens after work and get pissed. Oh, and the wall charts. I love a World Cup wall chart)

2:21 pm - Baby Ringo
Richard told me last night that Kirsteen is pregnant! I am so pleased and happy for them. He had obviously been dying to tell me and started a really convoluted conversation involving getting drunk at Smit's birthday bash and then saying "...well I don't think that's any good for Kirsteen!" before finally bursting out with the news. He looked so happy and excited. I can't really imagine them with a baby, although I always knew they'd start a family soon (and Rich confirmed that it was 'very much' planned). It'll play havoc with their cream carpets!

She went for her 13-week scan on Wednesday and apparently it was wriggling around loads and looked like it was playing air drums, so the bump is to be christened Baby Ringo. Richard's name choices are (boy) Richard Makinson the Second and (girl) Princess Superstar Makinson. I am fairly certain he hasn't run these past Kirst yet...

6:21 pm - Currently reading
On Beauty by Zadie Smith

Thoroughly enjoying this. For once all of the quotes on the cover of the 'curl up and embrace this like an old friend' variety are accurate. I am hammering through it and alternating between non-stop reading sessions because it's so engrossing and deliberately putting it down because I don't want to finish. The characters are almost three-dimensional and she uses a lot of metaphor which can be aggravating but in this book brings a lot of depth.

The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving

Freaking me out a bit. Want to finish it yet am slightly repelled by it at the same time.

The Timewaster Letters by Robin Cooper

Excellent toilet/sitting around at Christmas book. Laughed out loud on several occasions which is always welcome.

6:07 pm - New Year's Resolutions
1. Learn how to use LiveJournal properly, including how to make things look nice, insert pictures, use 'HTML' or 'Rich Text' (note: learn what these are first) and generally not be baffled by simple functions

2. Understand what 'booktards' is and why I have it in my friends list

3. Get some more 'friends'. I only have 3, one of whom is an actual friend (is this cheating?) and one the aforementioned 'booktards'

4. Keep a log of all the books I am reading for the whole year, so I can write to the Guardian Review section before Christmas like a middle-class ponce and tell them which books I have enjoyed in 2006, using phrases like "I was swept away by the architectural grandeur of his prose"*

*Not an actual quote from Saturday's Guardian but I'll bet my last Terry's Segsation that it's not far off

4:27 pm - What a waste of energy
Pointless and stupid wedding anxiety dreams I have had involve:

1. Beating Chudley up for forgetting to bring the bowls I made for the centrepieces

2. Turning up on the day without a dress

3. Everyone being pissed and the Registrar throwing them all out

4. Rich playing the wrong music so we have to come in to the last 30 seconds of Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over by The Charlatans

5. Trying to persuade the Registrar to let us make our own vows and also to marry each other as Chudley and Boolean

When I could've been dreaming about:

1. Being a fox cub or a cat or a puppy and playing with my brothers and sisters

2. Flying (my favourite dream)

3. That I never had to go to work again

current mood: stressed

11:13 am - Driving lessons and football and the Ramones
Eeeep! Driving lessons are costing me a small fortune but I am sticking with it because a) I like my driving instructor (he is kind and patient and gives me Sports Mixture) and b) I like driving! I am so shocked - I thought I would hate it but it's very enjoyable. Even when I stall going into big, scary roundabouts, heheh. Chudley has put me on his insurance now so I can go out with him and practice and NOT CRASH THE LITTLE BLUE CAR. I think all weddings would be off if I did.

Oh, and also I don't mind the cost so much because I appear to have stopped going to United as much. Whoops.

Had the bestest weekend in Brighton, although was very sleep deprived. Young Malik was constipated (nice!) and bellowed a lot at unsociable hours. Worth it, though. He is a little charmer.

Me & Susu went shopping for her bridesmaid's dress and had a marvellous time. I said 'let's go to Monsoon, I've got a good feeling about it' on the bus and when we got there, the very first dress we saw we both loved. She tried it on and it fitted like a dream AND it was half price in the sale. Things like that just don't normally happen to me. She looks beautiful in it. We were so excited we just had to go to Pizza hut for lunch.

2:05 pm - *screeeeeech*!!!
My wedding dress has arrived! Going to have a fitting next week so have to take shoes and undies with me. Which means I need to buy some blue knickers asap for my 'something blue' and hope they don't show through too much.

Which means I have:

Something old - x
Something new - dress
Something borrowed - x
Something blue - knickers, maybe

I'm sure I've got better things to think about than organising this sort of stuff. Perhaps I can borrow something old and kill two birds with one stone? Although that seems like cheating and I am a stickler.
